Sachs Harbour aviation

I'm not sure how often planes came to Sachs Harbour,  but it was certainly enough of an event to bring out the camera!

I suspect this is Dad's goodbye to Sachs Harbour,  Freshly shaved and about to fly out ready to take on the world.

More Photos, some now right way round

Welcome!

My father,  George Donald, worked at the weather station at Sachs Harbour, NWT, Canada c. 1959.

He had a box of photographic slides of his time there, that he eventually scanned.  I've uploaded them all in bulk as he scanned them.  They are almost all backwards, and there are duplicates -  he scanned some slides multiple times with different settings.  For a couple of years now I've been meaning to reverse them, curate them and sort them,  figure out the chronological order by beard length,  etc. Finally I decided to upload all as is, to share them.  They're beautiful shots.  I'll organize it into sections and republish them in some sort of order with more information as I get it.  If you have any information to share about the people in these shots, please comment.

I'm especially interested in sharing the Christmas party photos.   One day in the dentist's office in Edmonton Alberta, I picked up a many-years-old magazine from the NWT and there on the back page was a photo very similar to these, illustrating an "old-timers reminisce"  story about a Christmas at Sachs Harbour when the supply plane couldn't make the airdrop and "Scotty the cook"  (My Dad was from Glasgow, and was the cook)  created a banquet out of local produce, much to the astonishment of everyone.  The look in his face (he's the black-bearded man with Santa) makes me think these are shots of that time.  He loved to throw a party. And there's so much joy on so many faces.
